Dr. Kleitz on the Appalachian TrailDr. Kleitz   is a native of Washington State. After working as a carpenter he earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Civil Engineering from Cal Poly in California where he worked as a Civil Engineer for the City of Los Angeles.

While in L.A. he played semi-professional baseball as he pursued an M.B.A. at Cal State LA and an M.S. in Environmental Engineering at Loyola University.

His Doctorate is in Dental Medicine with honors from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He served a tour of duty in the U.S. Public Health Service as  the Chief Dental Officer in a Federal Prison. While in the Service he also was on the faculty at Troy State University and taught College Biology.  He has studied computers at the University of Missouri in St. Louis and has a certificate as a Web Page Designer.

Dr. Kleitz is a Merit Badge Counselor to the Boy Scouts of America in one Merit Badge. He is a member of the Bonsai Society of Greater St. Louis at the Missouri Botanic Garden, a "Life" member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, a "Life" member of the American Dental Association, a member of the Missouri Dental Association, the Greater St. Louis Dental Society, the Lewis & Clark Study Club, the NRA where he has passed all Firearms' Training and Certification and a "Life" member of the Academy of General Dentistry, where he earned a "Fellowship" ( FAGD ) in the year 2003 and a Mastership ( MAGD ) in the year 2009. On October 15th, 2008 he  received a Fellowship ( FADI ) in the Academy of Dentistry International, an International humanitarian organization. He is also a member of the "Just do it Hiking Club" where they hike 1,000 miles per year.

He is widowed from Carole and has two grown children, Brett and Kimber.  He is remarried with Jane who has two grown children, Kevin and David. Jane and Randy have seven grandchildren.
